my works

My Works on:

I am a Mining Engineer, that works in many engineering's areas.

My graduate vote was 100/100 with Lode, at Bologna University, (the most ancient university in the world!).

My thesis were about dowel effect in rock's bolting. I wrote a 2D Fem non linear Model all in Pascal, it worked fine until very large displacements are reached. I promised to myself to solve this problem, but work said no...

I developed the program by myself, but with consulents of my Professor, Prof. Ing. Albino Lembo-Fazio and the scientist that is Prof. Ing. Ribacchi of La Sapienza University, in collaboration with PhD Ing.Alessandro ...?

I began to work on affacintating studies about hydrology, geo hydrology of ground water, hydraulics, geotechinal problems, geotechnical laboratories apparatus...

and now... i continue with these works, in SGAI Srl and in developing software, engineering softaware and helpful utilities for engineers.

Geo Hydrology and River Hydraulics

Of my works:

  • Rio Melo River, Hydraulic study about the effects of Monosecolar Flood. This work is subdivided in hydrologic study on Rio Melo Basin (using most modern models of U.S. Army Corps Of Engineers) and, after evaluated the maximum monosecolar discharge frome every section, the solution of hydraulic model of Rio Melo (in pseudo-steady state). Study ended and accepted in 1998.
  • Ground Water flow of Marecchia's conoide. I have developed two types of model, a geologic one, with more than 800 stratigraphic columns (fig.1), after this and a geochemical study of more than 50 wells in 20years, I find all the acquifers, and all distinctions one from the other. After this I am developing a ground water flow model (a difference finite one) of all acquifers, (semi3D). AMIR. In this work Hisotopy has a fundamental role. We study tritium, O-18, C-14 and N-15 of wells, rain, river and small effluents.
  • Geological, hydrogeological and Ground Water Studies of Basin of Uliveto Springs.
  • Water Wells Log and interpretation at Piagge del Prete, Frasassi, about Temperature, Conducibility, pH, Eh, dissolved Oxygen.
  • Study of Thermal Basin of Sirmione Terme. Is one of most affascinating studies. With this work I studied the origin, time of permanence and quality of the ancient sulfur water of Sirmione Terme, Garda's Lake. Hysotopy helped very much in this study. It was done by Prof. Philippe Olive of CRG, Centre de Recerge Geodynamique of Pierre Marie Curie University.

Geotechnics 'n' Tunneling

After my thesis on modelling rockbolting effect, at the interface rock-bolt I worked in

  • Geomechanics of Cipollaio Valico Gallery, Provincia di Lucca. I used to modelize the wedge cinematics and mechanics, unwedge software from ???? - Canada. After this I worked in the project of normalization of the shape. Very interesting project. I took in field all datas for geomechanics, and I found interesting to study the mechanics of joints considering a tensor of JRC (the joint roughness coefficient), in fact, for my experience, JRC has a maximum and a minimum value in all joints, and these can be accepted as orthogonal one to the other. About this I developed a simple theory considering JRC as a matrix 2x2 [JRC] (aij). Referred to the cinematic direction in the plane we will have 4 coefficients, 2 equals: a12=a21, in the main direction just 2: a11 and a22. JRC in {n} direction will be: {n}T[JRC]{n}. Still developing a statistical calculation of Safety Factor, due to variance of datas as JRC, JCS, length of joints, fill of joints, etc...
  • Bishop model for Slope analysis. I developed a pre and post processing software that helps in Bishop's slope stabilities calculations. It is interactive with AutoCAD!.
  • Piles calculations
  • SGAI's Geotechnical Laboratory researcher, for viscoplasticity on soft rocks. I am going to develop the viscoplastic behaviour with the incredible and fantastic Tochnog (D. Roddeman freeware FEM software)!
  • Minimetro Perugia: FLAC Analysis of metro tunnel with a road tunnel:

  • Val Badia - Italy - Design of portal.

  • Rock Slope Analysis - Analysis of a 'Frana di Roscioro' - Canton Ticino Svizzera Italiana.

I conducted an analysis of a big slope stability. First modelling with UDEC after inspecting the effect of a big movement of rocks downhill (with a rockfall model and after 'playing' with the wonderful DDA of Shi).

Field of Interest and Research... would you like to join in research?(for free...like me)... and interrogatives (!)...

Geotechnics and Geomechanics:

  • Viscoplasticity of soft rocks, I can do many research laboratories tests, so I will have many datas... any idea?
  • Soil Mecanichs. Still thinking about a new approach on particles for soil modelling. In fact it is very difficult to use particles for their bond, at every step of calculation it is frustrating to watch if vertices or segments goes inside another particle... so... Why don't use a 'field'?... Yes like physic's foces as gravitational and electrical. If we say that repulsive force will win with low distance (i.e. rn) and the other will have effect at high distance (rm, m<n) we can simulate particles united as a media (attractive force) but not compenetrant (repulsive force at low distance)... can work? any idea?

Gechemistry:

  • I'd like to study the ion exchange in the unsatured zone, in particular the effects of NH4+ in clays or sands. Maybe someone else did it... do you know anything about this? This will help in studies about pollutant as nitrate in acquifers.
  • Still triing to understand how to classify a marine clay instead of a continental clay. How can be done?... I would like to develope an 'expert system' that will classify...
